The mobile computing devices have become pervasive with multifaceted applications in embedded systems domains. The wireless network communication platforms have also matured offering high bandwidth and reliability to a greater extent in comparison to earlier times. This has created a new paradigm for heterogeneous mobile distributed computing.
However, such distributed computing systems involve interactions between Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and General-Purpose Operating Systems (GPOS) in order to offer seamless and transparent systems supports to user applications. In addition, the communication architecture becomes dynamic between nodes.
The distributed computing and operating systems laboratory investigates myriad of topics in such systems. The main research approaches can be categorized as:
- Distributed computational modeling
- Distributed algorithmic design and evaluations
- Middleware systems
- Kernel-level system design
- Interdisciplinary computing and embedded engineering applications
